Day-Ahead: Setting the Baseline
Day-Ahead: Setting the Baseline
The DA market clears a 24-hour schedule the day before delivery. Every generator bids, every load forecasts, and the ISO finds the least-cost dispatch for each hour.
This 2-bus system has:
- Gen Hub (Bus 1): Nuclear (500 MW, $20) and Gas CC (400 MW, $50)
- Load Center (Bus 2): Wind Farm (200 MW, $0) and Gas Peaker (300 MW, $150)
- A 350 MW transmission line connecting them
Load follows a realistic 24-hour shape — low overnight, peaking mid-afternoon. Wind output is higher at night and drops during the day.
Solve the DA market to establish the committed schedule and DA prices.
Try it yourself
Increase city load by 100 MW
Higher load pushes more hours onto the gas CC margin, raising DA prices. Watch how the transmission line may constrain flows.
